Thinking about microblading in Trofa but still have questions? That's completely normal. It's a treatment you'll wear on your face for months, so it makes sense to know exactly what will happen before you book. In this guide we answer the questions we hear every day in our studio, honestly and without unrealistic promises.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent brow pigmentation technique. Using a hand tool fitted with very fine micro-needles, the artist draws strokes that mimic real hairs, one by one, placing pigment in the upper layers of the skin.
The aim isn't to "paint on" new brows but to complete the ones you already have: fill gaps, correct asymmetry, add shape and density. Done well, the result is so natural that most people won't notice there's a treatment at all.
Manual or machine?
At Beauty Essence we offer both. Manual microblading creates very fine, crisp strokes, ideal if you want the most realistic hair-stroke effect. The machine technique gives a more even result and usually holds up better on oilier skin, where manual strokes tend to blur sooner. At your consultation we look at your skin and explain which suits you best.
Who is it for?
- Thin, sparse or patchy brows (for example after years of over-plucking);
- Very light or barely visible brow hairs;
- Brows that don't match each other;
- Anyone who wants to wake up with their brows done and save time every morning;
- Normal to dry skin, where pigment stays crisp for longer.
When it isn't recommended
We don't perform microblading during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It may also be unsuitable with certain skin conditions in the area (inflammation, wounds, active dermatitis), some healing problems or during certain medical treatments. That's why we always assess first, and if in doubt we'll ask you to check with your doctor.
Your first session, step by step
- Consultation. We talk about what you'd like and look at your skin and current brows.
- Custom design. We measure your face and draw the shape directly on your skin. We only go ahead once you love the design.
- Colour choice. The pigment is matched to your skin tone and hair colour for a harmonious result.
- Topical numbing. A numbing cream keeps the process comfortable.
- Microblading. The strokes are drawn one by one.
- Aftercare and touch-up. We explain home care and book your touch-up.
The whole session takes around 2 to 2.5 hours, much of it spent on the design, which is the most important part of the treatment.
Does it hurt?
It's the number one question. With numbing cream, most clients describe a light scratching or pressure rather than pain. Sensitivity varies from person to person and can be higher around your period. If you need a break, just say so.
How to prepare
- For 24–48 hours before, go easy on alcohol and caffeine: both can increase sensitivity and bleeding.
- Avoid anti-inflammatories or aspirin in the days before unless prescribed (if you take regular medication, tell us and check with your doctor).
- Avoid strong sun and sunbeds on the area the week before.
- Stop peels, acids and retinoids around the brows about two weeks before.
- Don't wax, pluck or tint your brows in the days before: we need to see your natural hairs.
- Feel free to bring photos of brows you like. They really help.
Aftercare
Healing matters as much as technique. For 7 to 10 days:
- keep your brows dry (take care in the shower and when washing your face);
- avoid sun, sauna, swimming pools, the beach and heavy sweating;
- don't apply make-up or creams to the area, other than the product we recommend;
- don't pick the small scabs: let them fall off on their own.
It's normal for the colour to look darker at first and then soften. Some strokes may seem to "disappear" while healing; the pigment becomes visible again over the following weeks.
The touch-up
The touch-up takes place 4 to 6 weeks after the first session, once the skin has healed. We fill any small gaps, strengthen the colour and refine the shape. It's an essential part of the treatment, not an optional extra.
How long it lasts and what it costs in Trofa
Results last on average 1 to 2 years, depending on your skin type (oily skin fades pigment faster), sun exposure and the products you use on your face. Many clients book a yearly refresh to keep the colour.
At Beauty Essence, microblading costs €160 for the manual technique and €190 by machine. See all our prices on the prices page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have microblading over old permanent make-up?
It depends on the colour and intensity of the previous work. Sometimes we can correct over it; in other cases it's better to lighten it first with laser removal. We'll assess at your consultation.
Microblading or henna brows?
Henna is temporary (days to a few weeks) and great for trying a shape. Microblading is for a long-lasting result. Many clients start with brow design and move on from there.
Can men have it too?
Yes. For men the design is straighter and more discreet, filling gaps without changing your expression.
Can I go to work the next day?
Yes. Your brows may look darker and slightly red for the first few days, but there's no downtime.
